Cooking with an air fryer

An air fryer cooks with fan forced hot air between 160 and 200 °C and needs about one teaspoon of oil per portion instead of the two or three used in a pan. A chicken breast takes 18 minutes at 190 °C turning halfway, cutting added fat by roughly seventy per cent.

Why it lightens dishes

Browning comes from air circulation rather than immersion in fat: the same crispness needs five grams of oil instead of thirty, saving about 225 kcal per portion.

Single basket or two drawers

With a single basket you cook one thing at a time in a single layer. With two drawers you cook protein and side in parallel, and the sync function makes them finish together.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to preheat?

Three minutes of preheating improves the crust on meat and potatoes. For vegetables the difference is negligible.

Can I double the batch?

Only while keeping a single layer. If pieces overlap you need two rounds or the dual drawer, otherwise food steams instead of browning.
