Guide
A family menu works when there is one recipe and only portions change: a child aged 6 to 11 counts as about 0.7 of an adult. Serving vegetables first, refusing to cook alternative dishes and involving children in the weekly choice are the three levers that cut refusals at the table.
Cooking two dishes doubles the work and teaches children that an alternative always exists. Better one recipe with separable components: pasta, sauce and vegetables in separate bowls so everyone builds their own plate.
Up to five years a portion is about half the adult one, from six to ten it is two thirds, from eleven upwards it often equals or exceeds an adult portion because of growth.
| Age | Portion vs an adult |
|---|---|
| 1-3 anni | 0,4 |
| 4-5 anni | 0,5 |
| 6-10 anni | 0,7 |
| 11-14 anni | 0,9 |
| 15 anni e oltre | 1,0 |
Offer it again without pressure: on average it takes eight to ten exposures before a new food is accepted. Forcing or rewarding makes refusal worse in the long run.
Use the same leftovers from the weekly plan, split into compartments: a carbohydrate, a protein, a vegetable and a fruit.
